Dancing at Home is a key component to a 'Dancing Lifestyle'. You need to practice frequently if you really want to bring out your strong curves and natural grace.
It is easy and rewarding to develop a home-practice. Once you do, you will enhance the value of any lessons you take, and see results much quicker.
You can enjoy all the benefits of bellydance in your own living space!

Create a Bellydance Library
There are many decent instructional DVD's available on the internet and in stores. Begin with a few DVD's and build your own library as your skills increase. If you can, access your nearest Bellydance Community. You will be informed of workshops that are being held near you, and they may have some materials on-hand that you can borrow.

Your Home 'Studio' - Set Up
To be effective when you come to your home practice, it is a good idea to have a location that is designated 'Dance Space'.There are many ways to set up a place for practice.
A mirror of some kind is essential. It becomes your teacher for feed-back and an audience (dance for yourself!). Decorate it with lights and beautiful fabric. If you feel shy at first, you could put sheer fabric over your mirror to soften your image.

The size of your space is optional. One of the wonderful things about bellydance is that it can be performed in the smallest spaces imaginable (like tents). Start with something manageable. As you develop a 'Dancing Lifestyle', your home will feel more open, and you will see dance spaces everywhere!

A floor covering is luxurious, but not necessary. You may have a lovely area rug already. It could be your 'magic carpet' to dance upon.
Music is essential. Locate your dance space near an outlet so you can play music. Invest in a good cd player or use what you currently have on hand. The sound in your space is part of the atmosphere.
